The Polytechnic School Viana

Term began on 1 February for the new students, and they started by reading the The Polytechnic School manual to learn about hikes and plateaus, common meetings, the idea behind the survival trip and many other elements of the program. They formed trios to study together and help one another and became acquainted with the DMM education system. Each student is closely monitored to ensure everyone keeps up with their education, and extra help is available on Saturdays to fill any gaps. All the above forms part of the first period known as Swimming Like a Fish.

The second period, Questions and Answers, saw the students preparing and carrying out investigations in the community. The teachers handed out topics and the students sought information for themselves.
Towards the end of the first semester, the student sat exams and not everyone passed. The teachers are well aware of the level of assimilation and performance of each student, academic and social problems, family background and so forth, and they made plans to assist the students at risk of falling behind
