Teacher Training School ADPP Zaire
Final year students in Team 2016 are working as teachers in six municipalities. They collected manuals and instructions for their long-term teaching practice in January before departing for their host schools. Some of them have had an immediate impact, such as at Kungo Primary School in Soyo, where they have established three classes of 40 pupils each, or in Musserra, where the whole school is being run by trainees. In addition to teaching duties, the students have been implementing micro projects with and for the community. 18 latrines have already been built, a three-classroom school is under construction in the municipality of Noqui, eight pre-school classes are being run and five literacy classes with 300 participants. A Midway Meeting was held from 7 to 13 May to discuss progress, distance studies, pedagogical research, micro projects and above all how to increase the impact of the students’ presence. Distance study subjects to-date include Educational Philosophy, Psychology and Pedagogy/Methodology. In addition to micro projects, the students have been organizing community activities. In Mbanza Congo, they have given talks to around 400 people to raise awareness about malaria. In Kuimba, the trainees reached 120 people with awareness campaigns about basic sanitation. In Kindegi Commune in the municipality of Nzeto, they held an Open Sunday on the topic of global warming and climatic change, with around 200 participants.
