Overview
We currently operate 15 Teacher Training Schools in 14 provinces, training primary school teachers for rural areas. All are run under an institutional agreement with the Ministry of Education, which issues graduates with their teacher training diplomas.
We have graduated 15,825 teachers since 1995, 34% female. Around 3,000 students per year are in training on the four-year programme. Final year students are assigned by the Department of Education to rural primary schools for a full year of teaching practice, with approximately 50,000 children annually receiving a year of quality education in this way.

Activities
Our teacher training schools offer a comprehensive 4-year programme that prepares young people to become primary school teachers, principally in rural and suburban areas. We are committed to providing education which goes beyond acquiring knowledge and skills to education which transforms. Our goal is to produce capable, passionate, and determined teachers, who strive to ensure no child is left behind; teachers who make a difference in the classroom and in the community as a whole.
That’s why there are three fundamental pillars in our teacher training program, shaping another kind of teacher who graduates to bring another type of school into being: it is academically demanding, nourishes the heart and soul, and is profoundly formative. The four-year, boarding school programme, which has 5660 hours of training, moulds individuals who will step out of its classrooms not only as teachers but as community leaders.

Other activities
The Teacher Training Schools function as education centres in their provinces. Not only are they active participants in their “Zones of Pedagogical Influence”, they also coordinate a variety of training courses for in-service teachers. The 40 Pedagogical Sessions course provides general pedagogical training for in-service teachers with little or no formal education. STEM courses focus on building capacity to provide practical and theoretical STEM lessons in rural schools with few facilities. The 15 Steps to Reading and Writing course focusses on how to ensure that all children learn to read and write. The 20 Sessions for School Directors covers school management issues.
